We didn't come from bricks and mortar. We came from software. But a mid-morning coffee changed everything.
It all started in Barcelona, in 2019. Back then, Borja and Abel already ran a software company that was doing pretty well: Pindia Software SL. Javier, Borja's twin brother and a civil engineer from the University of Cantabria, was also working in the city: he was running the renovation of a hotel. A colossal job: the entire building was torn down, keeping only the façade, because it was protected.
As it happened, his site and our office were a ten-minute walk apart, so we'd meet almost every morning for a coffee halfway between the two. Javi, who on top of being a great engineer knew his way around software, kept showing up with database schemas and ideas for a construction app. We remember his words perfectly:
Guys, we have to do something. We work the way people did fifty years ago. There's a business here.
He pushed us so hard that one day we said: alright, fine, let's put some time into an MVP and see what happens. What followed was a lot of work at ungodly hours: we'd get up at four, five in the morning to move the project forward. And we pulled it off: we had a product we could actually try to sell.
The next step was going out to find customers, and the early days were hard, we won't pretend otherwise. People liked the software, but the industry was reluctant. We had to do a lot of teaching: sow first, harvest later.
